Time Thieves

  1. Gaming
  2. Sleep
  3. Running
  4. Work (Job, or at home)

Gaming
Time just blows by gaming. I love it though, I find myself very busy with many different hobbies I am interested in doing in my life now. Sitting in front of a screen and vegging is necessary from time to time. It allows me to reset my brain and just melt.

I do force myself on Monday’s to put the controller down and do other meaningful progressive tasks. Things around the house, or just anything that could make my life slightly better or easier. But this one is a big time killer for sure.

Sleep
This is kind of an obvious one. As a person who gets FOMO, sleep is something I wish I could do less of and still get the same results. I think some people are relatively good at knowing what time it is when they wake up in the middle of the night, due to it happening relatively often, but for me it’s random, and has no pattern.

I love to sleep, but only when I know I need it. Sometimes I will just outright pass out. I will wake up and ask my wife, how much time did I just lose, and she hardly ever knows.

Running
As someone who wasn’t at all ever interested in running, I find I lose track of time when running, even though I have a watch on me. My watch is primarily for keeping track of distance, and how fast I cover it. I also keep my phone, but it’s for music, or e-books.

Similarly to gaming, I find this time killer an enjoyment. I get a chance to see the city, be outside, and just go through my thoughts as I listen to an audio book. Music is an option while running, but not my favorite anymore.

Work
If I am enjoying what I am doing, or doing something difficult or interesting, time just disintegrates. I often find I have started a task and then I realize it’s almost time for lunch. I used to work long hours, sometimes 10 to 12, but I find I prefer to work hard for 7 then to stay at work for 10 and do a honest 7.

Companies that I have worked and given so much of my personal time, it was never repaid. Also, I’ve seen others around me work 10 hour days and get laid off. That really got to me because those people I respect because of their effort. But at the end of the day, we are just a number on a piece of paper.

Im curious what everyone else thinks, and what they find big time killers.

One response to “Time Thieves”

  1. I had a lot of typos today, and just wanted to get out my prompt before starting work. I would love people to correct some of my writing. I don’t always have time to spell check, or check my punctuation or grammar. I am interested in always improving.
