Hypocrite
I was told by a friend this is generational. I despise nothing more. The thought of someone telling me what I can or can’t do number 1 just drives me insane. Then that person doing what they told you that you shouldn’t, then them trying to rationalize why it’s different… Yah fuck off.
Usually though, I feel like this is an intimate situation often, and you’re usually not going to see this situation play out with someone you’ve just met, but if you do, it’s a massive problem.
Narcissism
This one is easily able to be spotted with a person you just met, or with a person you’ve known for years. I can even provide an example of a friend who constantly needs to bring the attention back to themselves, but also exhibited issue number one.
Recently, while touring a brewery, I was asking a ton of questions. When I am fascinated by something, and I would like to learn more, how the fuck else am I supposed to find out? So I ask questions, as I was told in kindergarten, “there’s no such thing as a dumb question.
The friend ask, “why are you asking so many questions.” I let it go, moved on. Then, this same friend proceeds to start asking tons of questions. Not only that, but also tries to answer the questions that I was asking the people providing the tour.
Not only was he being a hypocrite, he was also being an asshole, but also exhibiting narcissistic behavior, which happens anytime we are all around each other. I have no issues, it’s a known behavior.
A friend is a friend, I care about all my friends the same, and expecting the reciprocation defeats the purpose of calling them your friend in the first place.
I will not disengage from a conversation with someone who has this mentality, or personality, I just see it as someone that I personally will not mesh well with, and that’s ok. Some people don’t see an issue, which is also ok.
How I think that personality type views me
I honestly also think people like that think I am being narcissistic and I am trying to steal there shine. I like to joke around, I like to have fun with friends, and what I’ve learned, similar to my grandfather, I like to fuck with people, I enjoy seeing their reaction, and also there response.
It also gives me the opportunity to learn more about them, and I have learned, I love to learn. Narcissist, if I had to guess, think I am just trying to be the center of the party, or the group. I could care less. I could find the same amount of enjoyment 1 on 1, in a group of 20, 50 or 100.
It doesn’t matter. Although, a quick search says this about comedians, “The perception that comedians are narcissists is a misconception, though some research suggests they possess certain narcissistic traits, particularly vulnerable narcissism”
But back to me…
I hope whoever reads this has a good day!
