Reset
I consider the holidays a chance to reset. The entire rest of the year seems like a sprint.
Christmas
I like to pull up all of my favorites, even if I am not actively watching it. Home Alone 1/2, Jingle All The Way, Die Hard 1/2, Bad Santa’s, Harold and Kumar, etc. RICE, is a must. I run a lot, but also just work and push myself really hard.
We shop of course, like everyone else, we look for good deals, but also things that can help us throughout the next year. We like to be around family as well, of course. It’s a good time to sit around, shoot the shit and enjoy the company of friends and family.
Thanksgiving
In past years, we traveled a lot around this time, specifically to other countries, when I find more free time, I think this is how we would like to continue to spend our Thanksgiving. While I wouldn’t consider myself a person who opposes the idea behind thanksgiving, it is a weird holiday to celebrate knowing the history about it.
My first big family trip I took my family on, Japan. It was my most favorite trip, I loved it so much, but also seeing my daughter get a chance to see the world, but not only that, just see things I never got to see as a child.
When my wife and I decided to go back to Japan the 2nd time, we did it over thanksgiving again. It was just as fun, if not more. I loved it it. We got to walk everywhere, it felt like we were at a home away from home.
New Years
This one serves a dual purpose. It’s both my wife’s birthday on the 31st and the 1st is New Years. We usually spend it around family, just having fun, playing games, board or cards. Fluxx is a favorite of mine.
We do a little drinking, not too much for me these days anymore, I only sparingly drink hard liquor, but I enjoy beer a lot, just I think I am focusing on my long term health. The first is more rest and recovery, then you know it all start over again.
Usually, start of the year, I do a dry January and February. I let my body reset. I prepare it for the 1% I would like to improve by for the remainder of the year.
