Unproductive
This was gonna be a lazy post, I have been on vacation and wanted to keep this one short and sweet.
This question though, I found intriguing.
Primarily, on a lazy day, I feel unproductive. It’s the idea of stacking positive things, or habits. If I miss a run day, that’s one less day of getting better.
I don’t seek to seem maniacal, but with my background in sports, that’s how you’re supposed to view off days. Even if you miss 1 of 3 workouts from a single day, that means someone else is about 1 workout ahead of you.
Keyword: Lazy Days
If you used a different word, like rest day, it’s a rest day, sometimes we all need it, mentally or physically.
I often keep pushing myself, but there is a point of diminishing return. I could tell that my progress pauses, and I actually need to let myself rest.
On these days, I absolutely feel rested, and recovered and ready to move to the next level.
Listen to Your body/mind
Ultimately, listen to yourself. If you had to gauge, 50/50, what side of the line you are on, just accept it, and take that rest.
Don’t push and push and push, sometimes you may regress. Even the best know when they need rest, or a lazy day.
If your mind and body are constantly under stress, how can you continuously improve? Something will eventually fail.
Just don’t let it become a habit. Unproductively, which can seem like resting, can replace a good habit of productivity. After all, it’s in our DNA to follow the path of least resistance. Our bodies would prefer to conserve energy, for days when we will need more of it.
